Bass Guitars
"Music has been central in our family over many generations. I grew up playing tuba and tenor sax in my school band playing military, choral and big band music; away from this I was listening to Deep Purple, Jethro Tull, Led Zeppelin, Thin Lizzy and Yes before a chance listening to Weather Report, followed by the likes of Miles Davis, Tribal Tech, Chick Corea and the Pat Metheny Group, completed changed how I listened to music and how I appreciated the interaction between instruments. The lower frequencies always appealed and therefore made for a natural transition to playing bass guitar after school."
"I then started playing bass guitar (my first bass cost less than a tenner!) in college bands including songs by Deep Purple, Jethro Tull and Black Sabbath, later also including stints in local jazz bands incorporating jazz-fusion and Latin jazz, and also new-age folk and pop. My influences include Anthony Jackson, Jimmy Haslip, Darryl Jones and Jaco Pastorius, for example - too many to name."
And what about future goals?
"I am excited about getting back into the discipline of playing heavy metal bass, re-exploring the basslines of many of the great metal bassists, and playing with a group of seasoned musicians who have composed some really interesting original music. I am also exploring altered/extended range tunings with this band and bringing a different bass sound and style to blend with the rest of the instruments and musical approach."
Live Rig

Bottom Line
"The bass sits at the intersection of melody, harmony and rhythm; that is where I like to be for any form of music!"
